Tribal Leadership

Tribal Leadership

Every organization is composed of tribes—naturally occurring groups of between 20 and 150 people. Until now, only a few leaders could identify and develop their tribes, and those rare individuals were rewarded with loyalty, productivity, and industry-changing innovation ...

Recalibrate through coaching

New technology is constantly finding faster ways of informing you of all sorts of things to do with your life, career, and business. You are likely dealing with demands and information at a scale and speed that outstrips your ability to process it all and decide what to do and how best to do it.

Recalibrate coaching helps individuals and teams to clarify, prioritize, and strategize your way through the onslaught and act more effectively in your world.

  2. Team Coaching

Recalibrate Executive Coaching

Executive coaching is a practical, goal-focused form of one-on-one learning for busy leaders and managers interested in improving individual or organizational/business performance, enhancing their careers, and/or working through organizational issues and change initiatives. Coaching offers you the time, space, and strategic “sounding board” support you need to effectively re-focus and re-prioritize your efforts, and the efforts of those you work with.

Recalibrate Coaching Target Areas

Recalibrate’s executive coaching services focus on 4 target areas:

  1. Leadership skills development
  2. 360-degree feedback
  3. Career planning and advancement
  4. Emotional Intelligence (EQ) assessment

Leadership Skills Development

This topic area is the most expansive area of Recalibrate’s coaching work and can include increasing your leadership profile and effectiveness by:

  • Identifying and using leadership strengths
  • Effectively assuming and fulfilling a new role
  • Building/articulating leadership vision
  • Motivating and inspiring followers
  • Learning to lead at the right level
  • Effective communication skills
  • Building a team and generating alignment
  • Building and maintaining trust
  • Identifying and addressing conflict
  • Empowerment and delegation
  • Managing under-performance
  • Retention and recognition
  • Handling change
  • Running effective meetings
  • Presentation skills

360o Feedback

This process is invaluable for providing anyone wanting the opportunity to receive confidential feedback on their job performance. Recalibrate can either provide a fully customized 360o feedback assessment (utilizing both numerical ratings and information gathered via narrative interviews), or review and debrief a 360 assessment tool your organization may already use.

Whatever the process or tool, feedback is gathered from a supervisor, peers/co-workers, direct reports, and, if applicable, clients/stakeholders. It is often called a "multi-rater" assessment because you get all-round feedback from all the "levels" of people with whom you interact. Getting feedback from several perspectives is considerably more valuable than feedback from just a single source. Co-workers’ and direct reports’ perceptions are especially important and can help you better understand how others view your job performance and overall effectiveness in carrying out your role.

Recalibrate’s role is to help you understand and integrate the results from the 360 feedback, and to do some action planning for the future.  A coach is your confidential sounding board who is there to support you in looking at all the feedback and identifying a go-forward action plan that incorporates:

  • What you are doing well and should celebrate, and continue doing;
  • Any potential areas where changes/improvements could increase your effectiveness (i.e., specific things you could start doing, or do differently); and,
  • Anything you should stop doing, as it is seen to detract from your job performance and effectiveness.

Career Planning & Advancement

Coaching services in this area can include:

  • Developing a career advancement strategy
  • Networking skills
  • Identifying and developing key leadership and managerial competencies
  • Effective resumes and cover letters
  • Preparation for interview panels (including behavioural-event interviews)
  • Conducting mock interview panels for practice and getting performance feedback and advice

Emotional Intelligence (EQ) Assessment

Recalibrate is a certified practitioner of the “EQ in Action Profile” developed by Learning in Action Technologies. This EQ tool assesses the core capacities of self-reflection, self-regulation, and empathy, which are the foundational building blocks of emotional intelligence. These qualities are important as they fuel essential competencies like flexibility, adaptability, resilience, tolerance, and the ability to remain highly effective under challenging situations. Research confirms the impact emotional intelligence has on the bottom-line performance of the individual and the organization. This is particularly true for leaders and anyone who manages people.

The Recalibrate Coaching Process

  4. Put an action plan in play for which you are accountable, and to gauge your achievements and success

Recalibrate Team Coaching

A team is defined by a small number of people having a shared enterprise that can only be completed by its members working positively together. Ideally, the team is composed of people with complementary skills who are committed to a common purpose, a set of performance goals, and an approach for which they hold themselves mutually accountable. Although this sounds simple enough, it can be very difficult to achieve.

Recalibrate team coaching enables your team to function as more than the sum of its parts and raise its collective performance in order to reach the “breakeven point” – when the energy the team creates is greater than the energy you (as the leader) need to put into it.

Coaching helps a team to identify and generate:

  • Clarity of mission & purpose.
  • Collective ownership.
  • A shared strategic work plan.
  • A shared commitment to holding each other accountable.
  • What the team values and needs to build on.
  • What the team wants to change (and how to accomplish that).
  • What is missing from the team and needs to be introduced.

How Teams Benefit from Recalibrate Coaching

No matter what the business challenge, your team will undoubtedly be grappling with the need to do things differently in your part of the organization. Doing things differently involves challenging each team member’s habitualized ways of thinking, feeling and behaving (i.e., culture). These dynamics make a team vulnerable to dysfunction and under-performance stemming from issues such as:

  • The absence of trust
  • Fear of conflict
  • Lack of commitment
  • Avoidance of accountability
  • Inattention to results
  • Common toxic behaviours such as blaming, defensiveness, contempt and stonewalling

Coaching accelerates reaching a high performance state where the team knows what it is doing, can resolve its conflicts, utilize its resources, reach agreement on action, and learn from its own experience.
